I love going to the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center for swimming in the colder months. The only downside is scheduling of the swim team practices makes it sometimes impossible for me to access the pool at convenient times. It's frustrating that I can't enjoy the pool as much because lanes are hard to get sometimes. I hope the city management can take these concerns into account and make the necessary changes to ensure all patrons can use the pool without difficulty, perhaps a separate heated adaptive pool for disabled people and the elderly would help solve the problem. There is an adaptive pool in Tucson, AZ. which one similar would be perfect here if the city could afford it.
This pool is so nice and I love it but it's always so full of swim programs that I regularly can't get a lane to swim. They also don't offer refunds so that's a lovely combination.
Lap pool isnt heated, only the kiddy pool.
Slide not open most of the time.
Some elderly patrons feel entitled to certain areas of the pool and will ask you to move. Another patron was nosy and badgered me with questions. Showers dont have soap dispensers.
Very expensive.
It's a great spot, especially when it's freezing cold or way too hot outside. Definitely heard toward younger kids, but still enough to keep older kids entertained.
I was dismayed, however, to see the family changing rooms had no toilets and only a small built in bench for a changing spot. And the men's and women's locker rooms only allow kids of the opposite gender under six. As the mother of a special needs son, I went ahead and used the women's locker room as it would have been impossible and really gross to use the soggy family changing room. Maybe at least one handicap accessible stall would be a good idea.
Other than that, we had a great time!
Being an older woman with medical issues, I find it MOST disconcerting there's only 2 handheld showers I can use. It's much easier and safer for me to use the private ones which means there's only 1 I can use. The water classes in the morning are predominantly older folks, and I'm sure that parents would appreciate the handhelds to clean their kids also. I'm sure I'm not the only one who needs them as the private one is quite frequently occupied & I have to wait for up to 30min. at times to use it, or go home stinking with chlorine which isn't good for one's skin. IF it's a money issue which is frequently the excuse for change, I'd be willing to purchase a few for you!!! I frequently see & experience a lot of hair (usually long) on the floors which is not a pleasant experience to walk through either. With that being said, the pools are great! Lisa Hughes goes above and beyond to help folks out!
This is a lovely facility. We do lap swim or walking in the cooler pool, and stretches and walking in the warmer pool. Life guards are attentive, and staff members are welcoming. 10:45-12:45 M-F is open lap swim/warmer pool lap area. 10-punch card is $45. Daily, monthly, and annual passes are available. The children's area is full of fun equipment. A room is available to reserve for parties.
No point in going anymore. Very rude and unhelpful staff. Diving area permanently closed. Kids area open 4 hours once a week. Imagine if the Life Guards were actually paid a living wage.
The warm water side is too cold!
